Port of Felixstowe offers Container Weighing Solution
The Port of Felixstowe has confirmed that it will offer a container weighing service to ensure UK shippers are able to comply with new international regulations that will come into effect on 1 July 2016.
At a series of national and regional meetings, BIFA members have made clear their concerns regarding the lack of information being provided from the carriers and ports about how they intend to handle the impact of the SOLAS amendment. The announcement is a welcome step in the right direction, but members considering this option to establish the verified gross mass of a container should check with the port for additional information including the contractual impact.
The port's press announcement noted that “the service at the port will be available to containers arriving either by road or rail. The Port of Felixstowe is the UK’s largest intermodal rail terminal and 40% of all laden export containers arrive at the port by rail.” More information about the SOLAS amendment can be found at: Container Weight Verification Toolkit
