European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) permits
The present situation regarding trading with the EU after the end of the Transition period on the 31st December 2020 is complex.
In the road environment the two main issues are cabotage and market access. On the 22nd October the Government made an announcement which included the comment that the web portal to apply for ECMT permits will be available for use from the 2nd November, however, no additional information was made available.
It is still not clear in what circumstances the permit would be required, but the GOV.UK includes some useful information here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/carry-out-international-road-haulage-from-1-january-2021.
BIFA would suggest that any Member who needs such a permit monitors announcements from the DfT for further information, and BIFA will continue to provide information to Members, as applicable and when available.
Also, it is noted that Operation Brock, to control traffic flows, is being discussed and the Government has issued the following information on this subject here. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/enforcing-operation-brock-plans-in-2021?utm_source=96cb4c52-2cc2-41af-82f8-923896388e3b&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications&utm_content=daily
