The change of bank account scam
Bogus emails from suppliers purporting to have changed their bank account details on the rise.
A BIFA Member has advised that in recent weeks they have received several emails from suppliers advising of a change of bank details which, when checked out, have turned out to be bogus/scams (thankfully with no funds being sent to the fraudsters account).
The Member has also advised that some of its customers have received emails purporting to come from the Member itself advising of a change of bank. Again, these are fraudulent – the Member concerned has been with the same bank for 21 years.
It is clear that this type of scam is being tried on ‘big time’ and BIFA Members are advised to have a rigorous ‘check system’ in place in connection with any ‘Change of Bank’ instruction.
