Guidance for commercial drivers
Whilst working, international drivers are exempt from the 14-day isolation period when returning to the UK from abroad in connection with their work. However, they are still required to complete the passenger contact locator form, which must be done by all coming into the UK.
Driver are not exempt from the need to self-isolate if:
- They are returning from a holiday abroad
- In the case of EU nationals making the trip back to the UK to resuming working for a UK company
In both cases drivers will have to follow the 14-day isolation requirement.
The contact locator form link is below, and drivers can submit the form up to 48 hours before arriving at border controls, but not before that. The form however can be prepared as a draft and then sent once the allowed time has been reached.
It is important to check the individual ferry operators’ websites for information regarding hygiene protocols regarding the wearing of face coverings both inside and outside vehicles, provision and use of hand sanitisers and gloves etc and these protocols should be cross-referred to individual companies COVID19 procedures.
