UK & Australia Sign World Class Trade Deal

On the 16th December 2021 the Department for International Trade announced a free trade agreement (FTA) between the UK and Australia.

The main elements of the deal were agreed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in June, and now the final deal is set to be signed in a virtual ceremony by International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan.

The final deal will then be laid in Parliament for a period of scrutiny.

The deal is expected to unlock £10.4 billion of additional trade, boosting our economy and increasing wages across the UK, while eliminating tariffs on 100% of UK exports.

BIFA have been provided with a number of useful documents in line with this announcement which can be found here in a dedicated section.

These include:

  • The top 10 benefits of the agreement
  • Benefits for the UK in particular
  • Documents outlining how each sector can take advantage of this world-class FTA
  • Policy explainer documents for Customs, Data Protection, Mobility, Rules of Origin, Sustainability and Inclusion, plus Agriculture and Food

A series of short YouTube videos explaining what Free Trade Agreements mean for businesses can also be viewed and shared here.
