Changes to haulier testing requirements and sectors exempt from travel ban

Coronavirus testing requirements are changing.

As you might be aware of, there have been some changes to haulier testing requirements over the weekend that we would like to ensure that Members are aware of:

As of 11.00pm Monday 22nd February, COVID testing requirements for hauliers travelling from Europe to the UK via France are changing. The testing requirement remains in place, however there are two important changes to note:

  • Drivers on a return trip from the EU who spend less than 48 hours in the UK will not require proof of a negative COVID test to cross the border.
  • French authorities will recognise proof of a negative coronavirus test taken in Ireland if the test was taken less than 72 hours before departure from the UK for France.

Cross-channel operators will give drivers evidence of the time of their trip to the UK. Drivers will need to show this at check-in for the return journey. The precise arrangements will vary between operators and drivers should contact their operator direct if they require more details.

It is important to note that for UK hauliers or those spending more than 48 hours in the UK, the testing requirements are unchanged. Free testing remains available at the Information and Advice sites, details of which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/haulier-advice-site-locations

Drivers, who have been in a country on the travel ban red list https://www.gov.uk/guidance/transport-measures-to-protect-the-uk-from-variant-strains-of-covid-19 in the 10 days before arriving in the UK.
