Changes to the LEZ

Low Emission Zone (LEZ) emissions standards will become tougher for heavier vehicles.

From 1 March 2021, new safety and tougher emissions requirements for heavy vehicles operating within most of Greater London will come into effect.

Your vehicle may not meet these new requirements.

How do the tougher emissions standards affect you?

  • The emissions standards for heavy goods vehicles, vans and other specialist vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW) as well as for buses, minibuses and coaches over 5 tonnes (GVW) will change from Euro IV to Euro VI from 1 March 2021.

  • These standards are already in operation in the central London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). From 1 March 2021, vehicles that don’t meet the new Euro VI standards will need to pay a daily charge up to £300 to drive within the Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

  • There will be no additional ULEZ charge as the Euro VI standard will be a London wide LEZ emissions requirement.
