As BIFA Members know, doing business with Europe has changed with new and more complex systems being implemented. The Border Operating Model gives an overview of these changes. The updated document includes much of the information included in previous issues of the BOM but now includes some important new procedures.

NEW - Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS)

A new procedure that stands out relates to GVMS. GVMS can be used to facilitate the control of pre-lodged declarations for both accompanied and unaccompanied goods at border locations using the temporary storage model from January 2022. Previously, the use of GVMS at temporary storage locations had been restricted to only accompanied RoRo movements.

Case studies have been created to represent end-to-end scenarios that will happen between GB and EU, importing and exporting goods from January 2021. They show not just the journeys for standard goods but also journeys with additional requirements, such as those using the Common Transit Convention or transporting controlled goods. These must be considered in conjunction with the Border Operating Model which will contain further details, particularly for controlled goods. Government have also produced some new step by step explainers to support traders and hauliers with specific parts of UK custom requirements.
