Following our previous article in August, National Highways is currently in the early stages of developing possible options to upgrade the A2 in Kent. If this scheme is progressed, it will allow traffic to move more freely in the Dover area; reducing congestion on the local road network and improve connectivity for businesses and communities.

Have your say

As part of the development of the scheme’s strategic business case, National Highways are now looking to seek input from local BIFA Members to help understand the options, the design and to develop the strategic business case for the scheme.

To date, they have been engaging with groups such as the Kent and Medway Economic Partnership, the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and Transport for the South East, as well as local and regional transport operators such as DFDS, Stagecoach and National Express to gather evidence for this.

BIFA therefore invites you to complete a Business sentiment survey for the scheme. The purpose of the survey is to help the organisation identify areas of concern within the business community, and to find case studies of those who may benefit from an improved road network.

The survey should take no more than five minutes to fill in. National Highways would specifically like to know more about your experiences using the current A2, and what benefits any future improvements could bring.

You can complete the survey online here: National Highways - A2 Dover Access scheme Business sentiment survey - tell us your views (office.com)

Please note that this survey does not form part of their options consultation, which they will be holding at a later date.

Although this survey will remain open for your feedback, any information you can provide by Friday 14 October 2022 would be appreciated.

The A2 Dover Access is among the schemes being considered in the Roads Investment Strategy 3 (RIS3) pipeline. Each of the schemes is evaluated against a range of factors including strategic fit, value for money, affordability, deliverability, environment and stakeholder views. You can find out more about the RIS3 (Road Investment Strategy 3) pipeline of projects here – Pipeline of possible future schemes.

All the schemes in the RIS3 Pipeline programme remain uncommitted, with no guarantee they will be taken forward into construction. At this stage, National Highways do not know which schemes will be committed until the Road Investment Strategy 3 (RIS3): 2025-2030 is published.
