Young Forwarder Network strengthens organisation

Carl Hobbis, executive director at BIFA, who has management responsibility for the trade association’s training and development services, said: “To keep the Young Forwarder Network fresh and relevant, we have created a more consistent structure to the regional and virtual YFN groups with the appointment of the six regional chairs.

You cannot put a value on benefits gained by young people through the networking side of the in-person events, and this is the distinct advantage the face-to-face YFN has over its virtual equivalent.

By having the groups more organised we will not only have fresh ideas every 12 months, but it also gives young people a taste of leadership and the opportunity to develop other skills associated with organising events.”

The chairs for 12 months from September are:

Bobbie Costin from CH Robinson (Heathrow)

Brooke Jennings of Burhill Logistics (Anglia)

Nathan Ainsworth from Metro Shipping (Midlands)

Lexi Laybourn, DP WORLD London Gateway (London East)

Georgia Gibson, Cargo Partner (North West) and

Herbie Cobby, GEODIS (Virtual YFN)

To allow the YFN more autonomy and to facilitate personal progression, each YFN group will also appoint a vice-chair at a suitable time.

Notes to editors

The YFN was launched in March 2019 to create several regional networking groups, run by young forwarders and designed to help early talent, apprentices and young employees of BIFA members develop their knowledge and professional skills, but in a more social environment.

When it was launched, BIFA said it thought it would prove to be a major step forward for the industry in developing its future freight forwarding ambassadors and leaders.

The young people who are participating in the events are improving their knowledge of the sector, trends within it, as well as building their skill sets and learning from others.

BIFA’s YFN is committed to providing opportunities for those new to the industry to develop their knowledge and professional skills. Membership is free and open to any employee of a BIFA Member company.

Details of the next event can be found here.
